Yucca aloifolia - Spanish Dagger 20- 30 cm plant

A well known and popularly cultivated Yucca, native to the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of the U.S. and to much of the Caribbean. It forms a solitary or mildly branching, fairly slender trunk, the leaves are short, rigid, dark green and have a very sharp terminal spine. The showy inflorescense stands erect above the leaves and is mildly scented, particularly at night. The flowers are followed by oblong fruits with deep purple, sweet flesh. Yucca aloifolia grows reasonably fast and is well suited to temperate as well as tropical gardens.
