Beccariophoenix fenestralis - Madagascar Coconut Palm - (20-30 cm) plant

"Giant window palm" would be an unwieldy but appropriate name for this Malagasy beauty, native to the rainforests of the island's east coast. Young plants have large, undivided, grass-green leaves with slits or "windows," making the plant immediately recognizable and clearly distinguishable from B. madagascariensis, with which it has been confused in the past. It is easy to grow in warm to tropical areas, but it is also a beautiful ornamental plant for the winter garden and will thrive even indoors.
